Hacienda Don Hernan Rioja (Episode 337)

In this episode, we taste another Rioja, the Hacienda Don Hernan Rioja, which we hope will break our spell of tasting rather average Riojas.

The colour was not as deep as we would have expected, but as John M pointed out it is only a 2019 vintage which is relatively young for a Rioja so perhaps to be expected.

The nose or smell was very pleasant, it had a smell that reminded John M of a smell he associated with Pinot Noir.

John M was disappointed that he was unable to detect a leather smell.

John L was however able to detect leather when tasting the wine.

John M felt the taste was a little light and a little too tannic which rather killed the taste of the wine very quickly.

We expected more from a Rioja at a cost of £9.99 as we have tasted better for the same price point.

John M suggested pairing this wine with Comte Cheese from France, while for a main course John L suggested a meaty Spaghetti Bolognaise.
