Spanish Wine

Gran Familia Rioja (Episode 223)

In this video, we taste a Rioja kindly donated to us by Anna.

This particular Rioja is a Gran Familia Rioja (more details can be found at https://www.guyandersonwines.co.uk/wines/gran-familia/ ). This is a great introduction to Rioja if you are not onto too heavy tasting style wines.

This Rioja is very light for a Rioja and not as full-bodied as you might expect from a Rioja.

It is very refreshing and might even take a chill.

This wine is available from the Co-Op in the UK.

Albret La Vino de mi Madre Wine Review (Episode 183)

In this episode, we taste a fantastic 2013 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from Spain.

The rough translation of the wines’ name is My Mother’s Wine.

It has a great rich colour, a great nose (smell) and then when tasted massive dark fruit flavours followed by the taste of lighter red fruits.

A great wine if you are interested in starting to try to identify more than one flavour from your wine.

3 Ases Tempranillo (Episode 158)

In this episode, we taste an excellent Tempranillo called 3 Ases which is available from John’s shop Czwericks.

It has a fantastic blackcurrant aroma which is really powerful and great to “sniff at”!

Blackcurrant and a hint of vanilla on the palate with a great length. It is a great wine with a good deal of complexity.

We discuss how we think this wine would pair fantastically with Iberico Ham – the wine which costs £22.00 would need to be appreciated to it’s full and savoured over an evening, cheaper than a trip to the cinema and in my book far more enjoyable.

Just to clarify the discussion we had with regards to the length of time different classification mean the wine has been in a barrel and in the bottle her is a guide: –

Crianza:

A wine labelled Crianza has spent one year in oak barrels.

Reserva:

A wine that says Reserva on the bottle has been aged for two years; one of these years has to have been spent in oak.

Gran Reserva:

These wines are aged for two years in oak and three years in the bottle.

Priorat Wine (Episode157)

In this episode, we taste a Priorat from Catalunya in Spain.

This wine is a blend of Garnacha, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mazuela and Syrah and, given it’s alcohol by volume of 14.5%, it has a very light taste making it very interesting and easy to drink. Perhaps too easy!

The wine is Sainsbury’s own “Taste the Difference” brand and was available at the time of publishing for £12.00

Virgin Atlantic Upper-Class Crozes Hermitage Wine (Episode 128 Part 4)

In the last part of this episode, we taste another wine from Virgin Atlantic’s upper-class cabin; a 2016 Laurent Combier Crozes-Hermitage.

What another great wine to serve it’s upper-class passengers.

It’s available online for just under £22 a bottle and given it’s complexity, it soft and smooth tannins and it’s great length a very fair price.

Once again a big thank you to Virgin Atlantic, Ali and Saleem for arranging the samples.

A big shout out to Ali and Saleem for giving us the bottle to taste!
