Monastrell

Carta Roja Grand Reserva Monastrell (Episode 373)

We review a wine from southern Spain in this episode, called Carta Roja Grand Reserva Monastrell.

This wine has a fantastic price tag of £5:75!

The price is even more incredible when you realise that this wine has been maturing for 6 years before being released for sale.

The colour is a deep tawny rich red.

The nose is very delicate and it is very difficult to get any clues as to what it might taste like.

On the palate, however, the taste is at the polar end of the nose.

To start with there is a beautiful light juicy flavour and then the tannins kick in and it becomes a much darker rich complex wine which is incredible when the price tag is only £5:75.

The flavours include sour cherry, leather, and oak with a hint of smokiness.

The mouthfeel and length are also very good making this an absolute steal for the price.
