Beefsteak Club Mendoza Malbec (Episode 177)

We taste yet another Beefsteak Club Wine in the search for wine that John L tasted in a restaurant recently.

We have struggled to find a “good” Malbec and so will this be one to slot into the “good” category?

Take the look a the video to find out…

Asda’s Luis Felipe Edwards Chilean Malbec (Episode 136 Part 3)

In the last part of this episode, we taste our third Malbec from Chile.

This bottle was purchased from Asda for £7.45, a little more than the previous two.
The colour is more garnet than purple and is much darker than the previous two.
The nose again is predominately cherry and has a similar smell to what one would expect from a Pinot Noir.
A much fuller and better-balanced wine than the previous Malbec with some serious power.

Camino del Angel Chilean Malbec from Sainsbury (Episode 136 Part 2)

In the second part of this episode, we taste another Chilean Malbec.

This wine was purchased from Sainsbury’s, Camino del Angel, cost a little more than the wine we tasted in part 1 at £6.25.

The nose was a little “tighter” than the wine tasted in part 1.

The taste is very nice, to begin with, and then the tannins just take over and take the taste away.

Rather disappointing and in our view not worth the extra pennies compared to Tesco’s wine tasted in part 1.

Tesco’s Valle Central Chilean Malbec (Episode 136 Part 1)

In the first part of this episode, we taste the first of our Malbec wines from Chile.

The wine tasted in this episode is Tesco’s Chilean Malbec.

The price is very competitive at just £4.75 a bottle, but is it worth that?

The nose gives off a lot of fruit, cherry and the taste also is of predominately cheery with strawberry and raspberry flavours.

Very light on the tannins making it very soft. It is also very “juicy” and would make an ideal wine for someone trying to acquire a taste for red wine.

At the price, this is excellent value!

Block 18 Tesco’s Finest Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon (Episode 120 Part 3)

In the last part of this episode, we taste Tesco’s Block 18 Cabernet Sauvignon.

The most expensive of the three we have tasted in this episode. Will the extra money be worth it?

In John’s opinion, this is a Cabernet Sauvignon for Cabernet Sauvignon drinkers. In other words, you probably would only appreciate the subtle differences from the cabernet sauvignon we tasted in part 1 – if you are not a Cabernet Sauvignon drinker you probably will think the cabernet sauvignon we tasted in part 1 would be better value for money.

Errazuriz Estate Series Cabernet Sauvignon (Episode 120 Part 2)

The second Cabernet Sauvignon we try from Chile is an Errazuriz Cabernet Sauvignon this time from the Valle del Maipo. This family-owned vineyard was founded in 1870 so has a lot of experience in producing excellent wine.

This wine was a great example of a Cabernet Sauvignon but did not quite hit the same spot as the wine we tasted in part 1 of this episode.

In the 1st part of this episode, we continue our exploration of Cabernet Sauvignons from around the world. In this particular episode, we taste three Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile. The first of which is a Camino del Angel from the Valle Central in Chile.

This is a great example of a Cabernet Sauvignon and at a great price!

A Cono Sur Chilean Pinot Noir from Tesco (Episode 114 Part 2)

In part 2 of this episode, we taste a Cono Sur Pinot Noir available from Tesco’s in the UK.

This Pinot Noir is significantly more complex than the wine tasted in Part 1, but is it worth the extra money?
