Casillero del Diablo – Merlot (Episode 369)

In this episode, we taste yet another wine from the Casillero del diablo label, this time a Merlot.

At £6.50 this wine sits in the middle of the range reviewed in this mini-series.

The colour is, just it’s like its price, is sitting in the middle of the merlots, in terms of its intensity, translucence and colour.

Rather remarkably, just like the price and colour, the nose is not as interesting or intense as the best we have tried, but not as weak and uninteresting as some we have tried, again in sitting in the middle of the merlots in this mini-series.

On the palate however the tannins really, in our opinion, let this wine down.

Just as the fruit flavour colours start to come through, the tannins just chase them away, the more you drink the wine the quicker the tannins chase the fruit away.
