La Nymphina Wine Review (Episode 336)

In this episode, we taste the La Nymphina wine, created in Spain by two Danish brothers who moved to Spain with their parents when they were 15 and 5 years old.

After travelling around the world the older brother created Bodegas Trenza with his younger brother a Master of Wine joining the company later.

La Nymphina is made from Monastrell (Mourvedre) grapes.

The colour of the wine is a deep rich burgundy.

On the nose, prunes were very evident together with black cherry and John M also detected bitter chocolate.

The taste was vastly different to other wines, but for John M the stringent tannins killed any enjoyment he was getting from the wine but emphasised that this was down to this wine not being his type of wine.

The flavours on the nose do come through but then are taken away by the tannins.

In terms of cheese, John M suggested a Cheddar Gorge Cheese would take on this wine.

In terms of food, John L thought of a meaty, spicy pizza or some other form of spicy food such as a medium beef or lamb curry.
