Tasting 3 Choirs Wines (Episode 181 Part 2)

This episode follows John L’s visit to the Three Choirs Vineyard. Martin Fowkes, the Winemaking Director, kindly gave us some samples for John M to try back in the cellar.

The first wine we taste is their Cuvee.

Their Cuvee is in fact only £16.99, not the £20 that was quoted in the video and can be purchased via this link:- https://www.three-choirs-vineyards.co.uk/product/classic-cuvee-n-v/

This was a great tasting sparkling wine without the acidity people often associate with sparkling wine including Champagne. This Cuvee seemed incredible value as it deserved to be respected and enjoyed rather than just “necked”.

The next wine was 3 Choirs White Wine made from the Bacchus grape, whilst John M was slightly disappointed in the amount length, but John L really really enjoyed it. It was similar to Sauvignon Blanc, but once again had none of the acidity of Sauvignon Blanc which makes it ideal for those of you that like Sauvignon Blanc but do not like the acidity of this grape.

The final we taste is the 3 Choirs Vineyards Red Wine. This wine is ideal in our opinion for those people that are looking to move on from just drinking white to also wanting to drink red. the tannins are very light and the wine is very fruity. It’s nose (bouquet) is very similar to the Gamay grape which is used to make Beaujolais.

These wines are available directly from the Three Choirs website the address for which is https://www.three-choirs-vineyards.co.uk/

Grillo Wine (Sparkling) – Episode 155

In this episode, we taste a bottle of Sparkling Grillo wine available from Aldi.

It has a nice “Verde” type colour with a sweet aroma of pear.

The taste was “very lively” with a lovely “sherberty” taste to it.

It was low on the acidity that many other sparkling wines suffer from.

A very fresh and well-balanced wine for £7.99.

A fantastic price for great sparkling wine!

Jay Z’s Armand De Brignac Champagne (Episode 134 Part 2)

In this part of this episode, we taste the Armand De Brignac Champagne. This Champagne House is owned by the famous rapper Jay Z husband to Beyonce.

This champagne retails at between £200 and £300 and in our view it’s taste did not warrant the price tag.

In John L’s opinion, the Ambriel tasted a few weeks ago which retails at £26.50 tastes better!

Pol Roger 2004 Vintage Champagne (Episode 134 Part 1)

In this episode, we taste two big names in the Champagne world Pol Roger and Armand de Brignac which both have a hefty price tag so we are expecting great things from both of them, but particularly the Armand de Brignac as it retails between £200 and £3001

In this first part, we taste a Vintage Pol Roger 2004 which retails at a price around £75.

A fantastic well-balanced glass of Champagne with no excess acidity to detect. The flavour is as close as you can get to perfection for John L!

Pol Roger Champagne (Episode 122 Part 5)

Finally, in part 5 of this episode, we taste the most expensive of our five Champagnes.

This champagne proved to be more complex than the previous four champagnes we tasted in this episode.

It only just nudged into its pole position ahead of Ambriel, so depending on whether you were sitting down totally concentrating on what you were drinking or whether you were enjoying a social occasion may well determine which champagne you would choose.

Vollereaux Champagne (Episode 122 Part 4)

This Champagne at twice the cost of the Lois Delaunay Champagne we tasted in part two of this episode was not, in our view, as good.

We do emphasise however that this is a totally subjective view and you may very well love it!

Ambriel Cuvee (Episode 122 Part 3)

We taste a wonderful sparkling wine from England that we previously tasted in Episode 33 back in 2015!

Here is our 2015 Episode:-

So how will it stand up against it’s “Champagne qualified” competitors we have previously tasted in this episode – very well in fact – for both of us this was better than the previous two.

To find out more about this wine take a look at Ambriel’s website https://ambrielsparkling.com

The cost per bottle is now £26.50, which makes it very competitive indeed when one considers the quality of this UK product.

Louis Delaunay Champagne (Episode 122 Part 2)

In the second part of this episode, we taste a glass of budget champagne and compare it the champagne we tasted in part one, one of the biggest names in Champagne, Moet Chandon.

This Champagne can be purchased at Tesco for £14.00, so it is actually half the price of the Moet Chandon we tasted in part 1 which makes it a “no-brainer” in terms of which one to chose!

As promised in the video here is a link to the first time we tried the Ambriel Cuvee which we are about to taste in the next part of this episode.

Tasting some Sparkling Mead (Episode 77)

So for something totally different – Sparkling Mead from the same company that produces the Mead Wine we tasted in Episode 63 ( http://winemastery.co.uk/tasting-moniack-mead-wine-episode-63 )! We were surprised just how tasty and yet refreshing this sparkling mead was.

If you fancy a change and want to try something different that is full of taste and very refreshing this is the drink to try.
