M&S Lock Keepers Shiraz (Episode 206 – Part 2)

In the 2nd part of this episode, we taste a Shiraz from Marks and Spencer – Lock Keepers Reserve 2018 produced in South Eastern Australia.

The price of this wine at the time of writing is £9.00.

The nose was much more subtle than the Shiraz we tasted in part 1 of this episode.

It was much more difficult to detect the aromas of this wine, plum was present and John M also detected some tobacco and some spice.

On the palate, however, this wine had a full-on taste on the palate.

It had an intense fruit taste but was also very soft and smooth to the palate.

Aldi Australian Shiraz – Revisited (Episode 206 – Part 1)

Shiraz is the signature grape for Australia, so we are expecting great things.

This particular Australian Shiraz is from Aldi’s own Exquisite range and costs at the time of writing £5.70p.

John M managed to smell Cherry, eucalyptus, chocolate and coffee on the nose while John M only managed to smell cherry!

John M, however, was not able to get anything but the cherry on the taste and so was left slightly disappointed.

He, was, however, impressed by the balance of tannins in this wine.

John L felt this wine would be a good introduction to Shiraz for those that did not like their reds too powerful.

Priorat Wine (Episode157)

In this episode, we taste a Priorat from Catalunya in Spain.

This wine is a blend of Garnacha, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mazuela and Syrah and, given it’s alcohol by volume of 14.5%, it has a very light taste making it very interesting and easy to drink. Perhaps too easy!

The wine is Sainsbury’s own “Taste the Difference” brand and was available at the time of publishing for £12.00
