19 Crimes Red Wine Part Aged in Rum Barrels (Episode 316)

We taste another wine from the 19 Crimes label.

This time a red wine that is part aged in rum Barrels.

John L begins by dropping a clanger!

He states it is in the Cote du Rhone style using the same three grapes as Cotes du Rhone.

These being Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Grenache, when in fact the wines that can go into a Cotes du Rhone are, in descending order, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Carignan, Counoise, Picpoul !

Whoops and apologises!

The colour of this wine is very dense or dark with not much light being able to penetrate the wine.

Lots of blackcurrant on the nose and an abundance of other red fruits.

The taste was wonderful with an equally wonderful length.

A great balance of fruit, alcohol and tannins.

We’d recommend some Lincolnshire Poacher Cheese or aged Gouda. to pair with this wine.

In terms of food, a nice steak would marry this wine very well!
